Benell obtains planning for Business Innovation Centre
Benell have completed a commission on behalf of Barnsley Business Innovation Centre to design and obtain planning permission for a new
phase of floorspace at its main site.
The Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre (BBIC) was established in 1987 with a mission to assist in the economic regeneration of the
Barnsley Borough. BBIC provides a uniquely supportive environment for innovative, technology / knowledge based businesses.
With over 100,000 square feet of buildings already developed BBIC provides high quality, affordable workspace and incubation units on
easy-in, easy-out terms. The management team identified a need for a potential new phase of approximately 20,000 sq ft of new build accommodation.
BBIC instructed Benell to under designs for a new phase of development building and obtain planning permission for the scheme. Leading a
team of consultants including Wm Saunders and Robinson Smallthorne, this work has now been completed and full detailed planning permission has been granted.
Commenting on the commission, MD of Benell Anuj Joshi said “The challenge on this scheme was to ensure that the building reflected the hi-tec nature of the proposed use but was also cost effective. We have also ensured that the internal layouts provide the flexibility BBIC required to continue their success.”
Chief Executive of BBIC, Tim Milburn said “We have been delighted with the work that Anuj has his team have undertaken on our behalf.
The process was stress free from start to finish and we are extremely pleased with the proposed building.”
